The Commissary is offered by the Presidio Trust and award-winning chef Traci Des Jardins, in partnership with Bon Appétit Management Company. Its Spanish-influenced California cuisine is driven by sustainable, locally-sourced ingredients.

It is located in the heart of the Presidio, and fittingly housed in the former mess hall of the iconic streetscape known as the Montgomery Street Barracks. Built in 1895 and known colloquially as “infantry row,” the Barracks are adjacent to the beautiful Main Parade Ground.

The restaurant pairs authentic Presidio elements – such as lighting fixtures reclaimed from a historic Army gymnasium and Douglas Fir table tops fashioned from salvaged wood – with a comfortable, contemporary design. The Commissary offers both traditional seating and “front row” seating surrounding an open kitchen where guests can watch the chefs in action, as well as bar seating and dining on the shaded front porch.

The Commissary is a destination unto itself or a wonderful place to enjoy a meal after a day in the park.

Eric Minnich returns to The Commissary in his new role as executive chef after having been a key member of the opening team as sous chef in 2014, an experience that heavily influenced his culinary perspective. During this time, The Commissary received numerous awards including being named one of San Francisco Chronicle’s Top 100 restaurants in the Bay Area and Esquire’s Best New Restaurant 2014.

Eric has worked with such influential chefs as Michael Mina at his eponymous restaurant, and most recently served as chef de cuisine at Madera in Menlo Park, CA, where his team was awarded one Michelin star in both 2017 and 2018. Eric’s return to the Commissary is an exciting opportunity to express his culinary vision through the restaurant’s Spanish-influenced California cuisine.
